About the project

The Pacific Islands Roundtable for Nature Conservation (PIRT) is the regional coordination mechanism for the Pacific Islands Framework for Nature Conservation 2021–2025 and the Vemööre Declaration. It was initiated by Pacific Island countries and territories at the 6th Pacific Islands Conference on Nature Conservation and Protected Areas in 1997.

The platform brings the Roundtable’s member organizations and six specialist working groups together in one place: Nature-based Solutions, Nature Culture, Pacific Area-based Conservation Network, Pacific Invasives Partnership, Pacific Network for Environmental Law, and the Species Working Group. Alongside the working groups it carries the Pacific Conservation Database, briefing notes and annual reports, and runs registration and program information for the 11th Pacific Islands Conference for Nature Conservation, co-hosted with SPREP and the Government of New Caledonia.
