The client

WhoRepresents.com is owned and operated by Who Represents Inc., in the United States. It is a subscription service that provides contact information for artists and athletes through their professional representatives: the agencies, management companies, PR and law firms that handle their work. By its own account it has been in business since 2001.

Its About page describes its subscribers: many of the agencies, management companies, PR and law firms it lists, along with media companies, publishers, brands and the development and event teams of charities. The database is sold as separate subscriptions for film and television, music and sports.

The problem

What a subscriber pays for sits behind an account. The home page opens on a search by celebrity, representative or company name; a subscriber then opens talent records, with rep teams and social handles, and representative records, with contacts and client rosters. Access is sold as monthly, annual and corporate plans, and a corporate account holds sub-accounts for a company's staff under one administrative account.

The account area does the work a subscription business depends on. The site's FAQ describes it: billing that renews automatically by card or PayPal, receipts to view and print, upgrades to further databases, cancellation by the subscriber, a daily search limit on each user ID, and a My Data tab where users download or delete their personal data. A public blog carries regular industry round-ups such as Series Snapshot, The Lead Sheet and Box Office Round-Up.

The site runs on Drupal 10 with Drupal Commerce. The code under sign-up, billing and search has to stay current and secure while subscribers keep using it. Card and PayPal billing, automatic renewals, corporate sub-accounts and the daily search limit are all part of the site, so someone has to watch for security releases of Drupal core and its modules and act on them while WhoRepresents keeps its database up to date.

Our role

WeebPal provides the ongoing Drupal support and maintenance of whorepresents.com. The records, subscriptions and blog posts are WhoRepresents' own; our part is the Drupal site that carries them.

The Drupal support and maintenance page describes what that service covers in general: security releases for Drupal core and contributed modules, applied on staging and tested before they are deployed; contributed modules kept current; monitoring; and changes handled as scheduled work. The scope for each site is agreed with its owner.

The result

The site is live at whorepresents.com on Drupal 10 with Drupal Commerce, and WeebPal supports it. The screens below are of the public pages: the plans, the help page and the blog listing. The account area and the records behind the subscription are not shown.
